Anyway, we want to point you to two mash-up niceties that have surfaced in the past few weeks, in case that kind of thing still floats your boat: Stereogum teamed up with, er, Team9 (one of the culprits behind last year's amazing American Edit) to bring you mysplice.06 (scroll down for the full downloads) -- retooled versions of The Hits of Stereogum 2006, Mashed-Up. I'm particularly fond of the CSS vs. Junior Boys offering as well as Peter, Bjorn, and John vs. The Cure. In fact, most of the pairings make some of the most tiresome and loathsome songs of 2006 almost tolerable, which is impressive to say the least.
Secondly, be sure to check out The Best of Bootie 2006. The best mash-ups in the world are still (mostly) coming out of San Francisco, apparently. We've mentioned AplusD's "Love Will Tear You Apart (She Wants Originality) (She Wants Revenge vs. Joy Division vs. Bauhaus)" before (tres amusant!), but there's tons more good stuff here from an international array of mashup producers, including offerings from the once-ubiquitous Party Ben and DJ Earworm.
Labels: best of 2006, bootie, mashups, team9

The Kleptones album 24 was, hands-down, the best mash-up album of the year.
Oh, golly! How could I forget about that? I admit, I didn't enjoy it as much as A Night At The Hip Hopera, but yes -- 24 was pretty grand. Thank you for the reminder! (:
Hey ladeeeez! Glad you're settled into yer new zip code and back to your bodaciously good blog tunes!
Ya know, the thing about mashups is, it's only music snobs and people with no sense of humor or zest for fun who always stomp around saying shit like 'Oh mashups are so 2003' or 'Any shithead with a computer can make them!'...And, neither is true. I'm not accusing you of this tho - just an observation.
And for every shit mashup there's 5 that blow the mind they're so good. And for every 1 music snob who thinks he/she's heard it all via mashups, there's 10 people who are just discovering what they are, and loving them!
I'm only ranting, because being in the mash world for so long, I've witnessed all of this first-hand.
And, mashups are here to stay. They'll just evolve and mutate but will never go away (as long as new songs are being released....hello!)
And anything that causes people to CREATE - even if not every result is genius - is always a good thing.
End of rant...love on ya....DJ Paul V.
"Once-ubiquitous"... Oof, too true. Can I have that on my tombstone? ;)
Thanks for bigging up Team9!
Oh, PB -- you know I'll always love you best!
