Have a Lone Star for us, and support Austin's (and the rest of Texas' -- there's a few bands playing from San Marcos, Dallas, and Houston and some assorted out-of-staters too) best up-and-coming and veteran talent. I believe they're playing just for drink tickets. (Dear bands: Sorry if you didn't get a link below -- that means I couldn't find your web presence easily via Google. You may want to look into that...)

Emo's in Playboy? At least we haven't seen nasty-ass SXSW or ACL pics by Miss Merlin Bronquesse featuring partially clothed nymphettes who care nothing about music but like to have their pictures taken writhing around in the filth that Charlie didn't mop up the last time Emo's was cleaned (wasn't that November 2005?!). Oh the irony that Aubrey did our photos there. I don't really miss Emo's. I miss the people (Bettina! Dave!)...and the patio...and the old lady seats a little. But I don't miss the PA, the ladies' room, the view of the trough from the patio, or Wrens shows in August. =P
What's even funnier is that the representative picture is of a sea of dudes from the stage. At least they got that part right. Hot chicks rarely, if ever, hang out at Emo's.
Oh now, I'm sure they've cleaned since then!
Girl, I do not miss the old lady seats, but I do kind of miss standing by the giant fan stage right during a hot and sweaty summer show that's so loud and feedbacky you can feel it in the very marrow of your bones. No, really. I do.
For tortillas (and other various sundries), try Kitchen Market on 8th Ave., between 21st & 22nd.
For authentic, plain-jane, corn tortillas (why are these so hard to find in New York?), you can do no wrong than the store-brand 50-pack available at every Key Food in the city (99 cents, I believe). These are not Central Market tortillas. These are not cilantro-lime-infused tortillas. These are Texas strip-mall Mexican restaurant tortillas with heady corniness--and honestly what's better than that?
fnordboy: Ha! Pinkie already found the Kitchen Market. You'd better believe we'll be going there for tortillas.
andrew: unfortunately, there's not a keyfood near us in the 'sty but ... we did find tolerable corn tortillas at our superfoodtown. the problem is really the flour tortilla. the mission brand ones are soooo not an acceptable substitute!!
