Please, don't kill yr. idols. Dear teenagers of 2007, in 15 years, I hope some cute new band's video sends you on a nostalgia trip for your crazy expensive jeans and your limited edition sneaks and handscreened, microcrafted t-shirts. You know, much in the same way that Pinkie and I, sitting up way too late on a Sunday watching MTV2's Subterranean (since the trains were fubar AND it's raining so we didn't go out as usual) did for our green Docs, flannel shirts, and and vintage Levi's during the video for the Silversun Pickups' "Lazy Eye."
"It's 'Dirty Boots,'" Pinkie said. "Are they gonna kiss and stage dive at the end?" And she was so right -- we're pretty sure someone involved in the production of the video for "Lazy Eye" had that darling Sonic Youth video in mind. Had you noticed this? Are you as old as we are? Is anyone? Compare and contrast below.
Sonic Youth "Dirty Boots"
Silversun Pickups "Lazy Eye"
...And hey, isn't that Mike Mills (remember him?) as The Bartender? I suppose -- he is an actor and director now, you know. [Ed note: Before you think I'm a complete and utter idiot, pls. see comments.]
I trust that you're not intimating that MIKE MILLS of REM is the "MIKE MILLS, DIRECTOR" responsible for 2005's "Thumbsucker," for example. Because, you know, just because you meet a guy named GEORGE WASHINGTON at the bar, you shouldn't assume he was the first president of the United States.
Also, that Silversun Pickups shit is horrible. Thanks, bye.
Wait, he's not. I thought he was! No, really. Wasn't that all the hype around that movie? Or am I totally making all this up? Oh, good lord, I've been labouring under that delusion for like A YEAR NOW. Sheesh. Then again, I've been off American independent film since a traumatic screening of You Me and Everyone We Know, so you'll have to forgive me. Clearly this is all Miranda July's fault.
So, yeah -- my bad, thanks anon. But good night, you're cranky. Didn't you have your coffee yet?
You're not crazy, just probably confused because Michael Stipe totally does have a film production company called Single Cell Pictures. I don't blame you for thinking the two Mike Mills were one and the same.
Also, Silversun Pickups are great. Thanks for the video.
Hi ladies. Nice video comparison. I'd never seen either video before though I do love both bands. I just somehow have missed out on that whole MTV thing.
Mike Mills (director) also did that AIR documentary which you can't find on netflix (for some reason). But hey, I thought the same thing until I saw Wikipedia a long time ago. I think it makes pefect sense that a middle aged man who came for a seminal band like REM would turn out to be a good director.
Of course on a similar tip, look at Keanu Reeves and DogStar! Or seriously, look at Eno and his video instillations (sp?), David Byrne and his Art, and one of the guys from Sonic Youth does movies!
Well anyway, i got your back, keep posting, enjoy NYC, I did when I lived there.
Hahahahaha! I thought I was the only one who dug that teenage chick who's got that boyish look to her. She looks like a young Charlize Theron or something. $50 says she'll be a top model within a year!
I think she models for american apparel. . . there's a slideshow called classic girls on there and I'm pretty sure it's her. I want to know who she is, but it doesn't say there either. : (
to find that girl on american apparel go to www.americanapparel.net it'll be a slideshow on the home page. put your mouse over the top of one of the pics little doughnuts representing each slide show pop up go through until you find the one called classic girl there she is with a bit longer hair she's prolly elsewhere on the website too. and that lisa person is in the sonic youth video. i assume we're talking about the girl in the lazy eyes one, right?
The Rich Girls Are Weeping is curated by super best friends Cindy Hotpoint & Pinkie Von Bloom. (And yes, they took the name from the Brian Eno song "Cindy Tells Me.") They formerly lived in Austin, Texas but are now based in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.
Almost all of the content contained herein is dependent the vagaries of your hostess' weird tastes and whatever they're really into these days. As such, The Rich Girls Are Weeping does not focus as strongly on flavor-of-the-instant acts as some mp3 blogs; however, if you are in a band or with artist or label management and would like to send promotional materials to Cindy and Pinkie, drop an email to elegantfaker AT gmail DOT com. (NB: We receive a lot of email -- please don't fret if we don't get back with you right away! Urgent messages & mashnotes can be directed to cindy.hotpoint AT gmail DOT com)

Couldn't find this model you think might be her on American Apparel's site.
Could you possibly post a link or directions on how to find that slideshow on their site? Thanks.
The girl in the video might be the most beautiful girl I have ever seen in my life. I think I might be in love with her too
Lisa Stansbury from nj is the gal in the video
